    • Angelos Repapis has held the position of Principal Bassist (B-Position) with the Athens State Orchestra since 2008.

Born in Athens, he began his double bass studies in 1981 at the Athens Conservatory under the tutelage of Alekos Tzoumanis. In 1986, he was awarded a scholarship from the “Mousigetis” Foundation, allowing him to further his studies at the Rotterdam Academy with Professor H. Roelofsen. He graduated in 1990, earning diplomas in both performance and pedagogy. Alongside his double bass studies, Angelos pursued viola da gamba at the Utrecht School of Early Music, studying under Anneke Pols and earning his teaching diploma in 1992.

Between 1990 and 1993, he served as a regular member of the Athens State Orchestra and also performed with the Orchestra of Colors. From 1993 to 2008, he was a member of the Camerata – Friends of Music Orchestra.

Angelos collaborates with most of Greece’s premier Early Music ensembles, dedicated to historically informed performance practices using period instruments. His discography includes recordings for the Third Program of Hellenic Radio, featuring J.S. Bach’s sonatas with harpsichordist Katerina Ktona.

In addition to his performance career, he teaches double bass at the “Philippos Nakas” Conservatory.

He performs on a Jaap Bolink double bass.
